This is multi-agency safeguarding children training for those who support and care for children. It is for those that work and/ or volunteer with children and young people. All organisations and agencies that work with children share an obligation to safeguard and promote their welfare. 

Learning aims

  • Recognise the different categories of child abuse and the possible signs and indicators
  • Understand how child development may be impacted upon by abuse
  • Recognise your own safeguarding roles and responsibilities
  • Understand the importance of the child's voice and how to listen to what the child has to say
  • Be clear about what you should do if you are concerned about a child and how to inform those that should know about those concerns
  • Be clear about how to respond to a child 

The course will cover an introduction to the different types of neglect and abuse, the legislative framework for child safeguarding, how to make a safeguarding referral; challenge and how to escalate a concern; curiosity and the need to look beyond the obvious; learning from child safeguarding practice reviews and case audits; guidance on information sharing, and listening to what children are telling us.
