Mental capacity is a person's ability to understand information and make decisions about their life. All professionals who work with children, families and adults, have a duty to understand mental capacity, and the legal framework of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and be able to apply this in their practice.
This course will introduce the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and help professionals understand their duty and how to apply these principles in practice. The course will also cover the Deprivation of Liberty Standards and its application, in cases where a person may be deprived of their liberty.
Aims:
- Understanding the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and professionals' duty
- Being confident in considering mental capacity and applying it in your practice
- Understanding and being able to meet the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Standards 2009
Target Audience: This course is for anyone who works or volunteers with children, families or adults, at all levels working in statutory, public, voluntary and independent sectors in Herefordshire.
