Emerging Sexuality and Gender Identity

By the end of the course participants will have discussed:

•           Stages of sexual changes and understanding in a child’s development.

•           What can impact on these stages?

•           How to support a child of a given age/stage of development with sexual and social understanding

•           Offering positive gender roles, acceptance of sexual variations and behaviours

•           Keeping a child safe from inappropriate sexual approaches, especially on-line

•           To support the development of understanding of biological sex, sexual orientation, gender expression and gender identity.

•           To look at the roles of foster and kinship carers in talking talk to a young person about their gender identity and sexual orientation?

•           To explore real experiences of participants and reflect on how they supported the child and were supported themselves.

•           What can be challenging and where can you get advice and support?

•           How to support a child/young person to be resilient in the face of stigma.

•           How to respond and support young people who are expressing confusion or specific sexual orientation.

•           How to support a child or young person who is being bullied about their sexual orientation or gender identity?
