Detail:

This course provides an overview to understand what constitutes domestic abuse, stalking and harassment and sexual violence, where these can overlap, and emphasising the importance of hearing the story of each and every victim/survivor as unique and their own – without pre-conception. Delegates will be supported to recognise the signs, indicators and behaviours, risk factors, and the impact on victims, including children. Professional curiosity in the context of domestic abuse and sexual violence will also be explored, as well as relevant multi-agency safeguarding processes including MARAC.

Audience - This is available to people who work as staff or volunteers and those who work in a safeguarding role. It is aimed at those who are working directly with people who may be affected by domestic abuse, who want to further develop their knowledge and understanding of the scope of domestic abuse and sexual violence and how to appropriately respond and refer to local services. Delegates should have some existing understanding of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Learning aims:

  • An understanding of what constitutes domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking and harassment (including online and tech abuse), rurality, domestic abuse in older people’s relationships, and impact on children.
  • Recognise the signs, indicators and behaviours, risk factors and the impact on victims and children and the appropriate safeguarding responses as well as the importance of professional curiosity.
  • Attendees will learn about immediate crisis and safety planning processes; understanding Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), key agencies and their process and referral pathways; increasing awareness of sexual abuse, including Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), and awareness of learning from Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), both in Herefordshire and nationally.
