Detail:

Herefordshire Council, like other local authorities, has a legal duty to help young people aged 16 & 17 years old who find themselves homeless or threatened with homelessness.  The Council has recently completed a review of its ‘Joint Protocol for Homeless 16-17 year old Young People in Herefordshire’ and is now offering training on the protocol.  Training is primarily aimed at front line officers in:

  • Children’s Services who work with 16 & 17 year olds
  • The Housing Solutions/Home Point Teams
  • Staff from providers of commissioned services for 16 & 17 year olds
  • Officers involved in planning and commissioning services for 16 & 17 year olds who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.    

The training will encompass:

  • Legislation and legal obligations
  • The support available to this group of young people
  • Working together across services to meet the needs of this group of young people
  • Processes of how to manage cases
  • How to arrange and carry out a joint assessment
  • Housing options and choices available to young people.
