To gain a better understanding of diversity and cultural competence to support improved confidence, practice and communication.
- Discuss what is meant by the term ‘diversity’
- Consider positive approaches and attitudes to diversity for yourselves and the children you support.
- Exploring our diverse and multi-cultural society.
- Explore what we mean by ‘cultural competence’ and why it is important as a foster or kinship carer, and in a social role.
- Consider the importance of using current language, and how language changes and develops.
- Appropriately care for children from different backgrounds
- Supporting children to develop strategies to deal with racism and other forms of cultural bias.
