Detail:

Allegations and safer care

Allegations are a serious matter and have a big impact on foster carers.  This course will help foster carers to understand the processes that are followed when there is an allegation, concern, or complaint.

Safer caring has been developed as a response to the impact of allegations, but at times the sector has set rigid and unrealistic expectations.  This course will look at best practice in safer caring, and will encourage a ‘risk-sensible’ approach to developing family safer caring plans.

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand the difference between allegations, complaints and standards of care
  • Considered the processes that are involved with handling allegations against foster carers
  • Reflected on why allegations might be made, and looked at good safer caring practices
