Course Aim:

To enable participants to develop the skills, tools and understanding to support children in their preparation for permanency. To enable participants to develop an understanding of the difference between Life Story Books and Life Story Work and when each should be used. To support the development of meaningful and purposeful Life Story Books for children in care.

 

Course objectives:

  • To develop a knowledge and understanding of the importance of preparation of children for permanency.
  • Consider a variety of direct work tools and books that can support a child’s understanding of their care plan and decisions that are being made for them.
  • To develop an awareness of the key differences between life story books and life story work.
  • To consider the life story book model by Joy Rees which is used across all of the Local Authorities.
  • To consider the life story work model by Richard Rose and how this can be used with children in care.
  • To have an understanding of how life story books and life story work can be used with children to help them to understand a child in cares journey.
