Permanence through Adoption

This course is for Children's Social care staff only (2 day programme)

Course Aim:

To understand and confidently put into practice a range of processes when considering permanency planning for children for adoption. Exploring the adoption decision making process from a care planning and legal perspective, understanding the importance of producing high quality and appropriate child’s permanence reports and considering how to support children within adoptive families.

Learning objectives: 

• • To gain an understanding of the Government’s adoption agenda, the role of the regional adoption agency, working together arrangements and pathways.
  • To explore the adoption decision making process from a care planning and legal perspective incorporating case law requirements.
  • To understand the importance of producing high quality and appropriate child’s permanence reports – a key document in the adoption process – and contact planning.
  • Approaches to the adoption matching process, understanding the role of the adoption panel and working with adoptive parents through transitions and the early placement stages.
  • The importance of the life story book and an overview of life story work.
  • To gain an understanding of Early Permanence - Fostering for Adoption and how to progress timely placement effectively.
  • To provide an overview of maintaining placements, how to develop appropriate adoption support plans and to access the Adoption Support Fund and preventing disruption.
